What Is It Really Like to Attend a Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop?
Maybe you’ve looked at a couples workshop and thought, That sounds wonderful.
And then immediately thought, But what exactly are we going to be doing all weekend?
Will we have to talk about our relationship in front of strangers? Will someone put us on the spot? Is it going to feel like three days of therapy? What if one of us is more comfortable talking about feelings than the other?
Those are reasonable questions—especially when you’re considering giving an entire weekend to your relationship.
A Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop is designed to be something quite different from sitting in a room while someone lectures you about how to have a better marriage. It combines learning with guided conversations and private exercises between you and your partner.
And perhaps most importantly, you don't have to arrive with a relationship that's falling apart.
You simply have to arrive together.
You Learn Together—but the Personal Conversations Stay Between You
One of the biggest misconceptions about a couples workshop is that you're going to be asked to share the intimate details of your relationship with everyone else in the room.
That's not what this weekend is about.
There are group portions of the workshop where you'll learn about relationships, connection, communication, and the patterns couples can fall into. You'll also see examples and be guided through the ideas behind the Hold Me Tight® approach.
But when it's time to explore what those ideas mean in your relationship, the important conversations happen privately between you and your partner.
You don't have to tell the room about your last argument.
You don't have to explain your marriage to strangers.
This is your relationship.
The meaningful conversations belong to the two of you.
It Isn't About Deciding Who Is Right
Most couples already know how to make their case.
We remember what was said. We remember what wasn't done. We remember why our reaction made perfect sense considering what the other person did first.
But if proving who was right could solve recurring relationship problems, most couples would have solved them a long time ago.
A Hold Me Tight® workshop takes a different approach.
Rather than spending the weekend figuring out who's at fault, couples begin looking at what happens between them when connection becomes difficult.
What happens when one of you feels hurt?
What happens when one person wants to talk and the other wants some space?
What happens when you both want to feel understood but neither of you feels heard?
The goal isn't to declare a winner.
It's to help you understand each other.
Yes, You'll Actually Talk to Each Other
This isn't a weekend where you sit beside your partner taking notes for three days and then promise to try some of the ideas when you get home.
The conversations are part of the experience.
You'll have opportunities to slow things down, turn toward one another, and talk in ways that everyday life doesn't always make room for.
And that's part of what can make stepping away for a weekend so valuable.
At home, there is always something.
The phone rings. Someone needs you. There's laundry. There's work. There's an appointment tomorrow. Someone is hungry. You're exhausted.
Even couples who genuinely love spending time together can discover that they've become remarkably good at managing a life together without spending much uninterrupted time simply being together.
For one weekend, your relationship gets to move to the top of the list.
You May Recognize Yourselves in Ways You Didn't Expect
One of the interesting things about learning about relationship patterns is that you may suddenly recognize something you've experienced dozens—or hundreds—of times.
Oh. That's what we do.
Maybe one of you pursues a conversation while the other withdraws.
Maybe criticism brings defensiveness, which brings more criticism.
Maybe both of you retreat.
Maybe you've been arguing about different subjects but somehow ending up in exactly the same emotional place.
Recognizing a pattern doesn't magically make every disagreement disappear.
But it can give you a new way of looking at what's happening.
Instead of me versus you, you can begin recognizing the pattern the two of us keep getting caught in.
That's an important difference.
There Will Still Be Laughter
We're talking about relationships, so yes, there can be meaningful conversations.
But meaningful doesn't have to mean miserable.
You're spending a weekend with the person you chose.
There can be moments of discovery and tenderness alongside ordinary conversation, laughter, meals, quiet time, and simply enjoying being away from everyday responsibilities.
Our upcoming Utah workshop is intentionally being held in a setting that gives couples room to step away from normal life.
You're not driving home after an hour and immediately returning to laundry, emails, errands, and everything else waiting for you.
You get to stay.
And This Particular Weekend Is More Than the Workshop
The upcoming Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop will take place September 4–6, 2026, at Dickinson Ranch near Cedar City, Utah.
The workshop itself will be facilitated by Rachel Christensen, LCSW, Marriage Counselor, with discussions, video examples, and private partner exercises throughout the weekend.
But Ramona has also created an experience around the workshop.
Your registration is for both partners and includes rustic lodging at Dickinson Ranch and meals during the weekend.
Special guest Zosha from Sound Will Heal will also be joining us, bringing traditional tea ceremonies and sound-healing experiences into the weekend.
So between the relationship work, you'll have opportunities to settle in, share meals, enjoy the ranch setting, slow down, and spend time together without rushing immediately back into ordinary life.
It's part workshop.
Part retreat.
And part opportunity to remember what it feels like to give one another your full attention.
What If My Partner Is a Little Skeptical?
That's okay, too.
You don't both have to arrive equally enthusiastic.
One of you may have found the workshop and immediately thought, We should do this.
The other may be thinking, Why? We're fine.
Or possibly, Please tell me nobody is going to make me talk about my feelings in front of a room full of people.
You don't have to perform. You don't have to be the most emotionally articulate couple in the room. And you don't have to arrive knowing exactly what you want to change.
You can simply come willing to spend the weekend together and see what you discover.
What Will You Leave With?
We can't promise that one weekend will eliminate every disagreement you'll ever have.
That's not what healthy relationships look like anyway.
You will still be two different people with different histories, personalities, needs, preferences, and ways of seeing the world.
The opportunity is to understand those differences—and each other—a little better.
To recognize what happens when you lose connection.
To practice finding your way back.
And perhaps to go home remembering something everyday life sometimes makes easy to forget:
You're on the same side.
Give Your Relationship a Weekend
There will always be something else you could do with a weekend.
- Another project.
- Another obligation.
- Another list.
But how often do you deliberately set aside three days and say:
This time is for us.
The Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop will be held September 4–6, 2026, at Dickinson Ranch near Cedar City, Utah.
Come settle in. Slow down. Learn together. Talk to each other. Laugh together. And give your relationship something we rarely seem to have enough of:
Undivided time.
